he doesn't know how to deal with Raptor, and he's been projecting a LOT of his Celeste issues onto her and Jubjub since he's all sulky abandoned puppy over the previous team losses. He worries she compares Celeste to whatever team she was on in the past and they don't match up and now she has friends on other teams OF COURSE SHE'S GOING TO CARE ABOUT THEM MORE hiss hiss why don't you just go join them you will anyway you don't even like our Dragon--
basically March is a ball of Celenadequacy.
Personality wise he doesn't mind her so much, although he finds her really loud (and he has very sensitive hearing), but she seems willing to play hardball with the rest of them which he appreciates. He just can't bring himself to trust her to stick around, whether she leaves to the portrait or another team, and worries in a paranoid way that he's going to go to sleep one night and wake up to Jubjub and her on his bed, wearing a different colored team uniform, holding a bunch of opiates and whispering that they need to become one with Sabra.
PRETTY NEUTRAL! his opinion on Sage as a whole is Sage: Team lie down and die. HE SORT OF IS HISSY AT THEM because they accept Shark (to his knowledge) but March knows he is so unwelcome and IT'S NOT LIKE HE'S BETTER THAN ME JACKAL YOU BIASED ASSHOLE but then he doesn't want to be around them anyway.
And he's well aware that like, Sage is OH GOD WHY IS HE HERE GET OUT. So he viewed the food thing as an attempt to get at their alcohol in bribery. He doesn't think she's positive towards him in the slightest, and he doesn't really care about her. GREEN THING THAT'S PROBABLY JUDGMENTAL AND HATES ME AND IS HYPOCRITICAL.
she also thinks he is responsible for the dragon attack in dreamland- he was telling her to shut up, she didn't, then dragon attacked! celeste is the one who has the dragon! LOGIC even if jackal told her it's not how their deal works she still suspects. hiss.
the stew thing is not a bribe, she is actually still not aware of what happened in dangerdragon! she just doesn't want the food to go to waste and hey, maybe if this guy gets it, he'll be less crazy in their general direction, which is good! Paru does not like crazy being pointed in her direction.
tl;dr mostly fear, a bit of distrust, and a tiny bit of a desire to innadress him if it wouldn't end in stabbings because march.
so a team goes to bone witch for patroning! What would she offer and what would she want in return?
He does believe Celeste brings a little more to the table than Cardinal can, in that they historically have had a much higher win rate/stability (more skills and memories) and thus more ability to make strategic plays, but that with their own line up suffering from two skills loss members and a normal girl now along with the loss of their best fighters, Cardinal now has them outpowered in sheer combat ability and will only be getting more and more useful.
It's an extremely mutual alliance, as far as he's concerned, and while he doesn't trust Cardinal any more than he trusts any other team, March believes they'll keep to their end as long as it's just as beneficial for them!
Plus their play style ICly is utterly alike in the DO ANYTHING TO SURVIVE, their only real issue is that they've befriended different teams who don't all get along- And that's an issue that could potentially be turned into a strength.
OOCly, I think it's a very good match up of personalities and IC willingness to get along, even if it's likely to end in a glorious leper spiral.
THAT'S PRETTY MUCH HOW LACE SEES IT, TOO, minus the part where she thinks Cardinal has Celeste beat out for combat strength because she habitually assumes everyone else who sees things through a more aggressive lens like she does is probably as strong as she is, and she hasn't talked to the new Celestes enough/at all to realize they're ... squishy. She doesn't trust Celeste either, but they have a concrete, agreed-upon alliance with terms and penalties and she does trust them far enough to keep to the terms, simply because both sides know that would end in mutually assured destruction if they broke it and at least in Celeste's case she doesn't think any of them are that stupid and/or insane. So long as the cost of breaking it is higher than the cost of maintaining it there's no reason for either side to call it off, but - well, as it shows in the current Cardinalpost she's still paranoid enough about it to aim for precautionary measures just in case.
(As a counterpoint she does, however, expect that Copper Rose is that stupid and/or insane, at this point, but when an alliance happens with them she'll still hold them to it anyway.)
Which is why I suspect there will be some interesting shenanigans afoot should it actually come to pass, like it's kinda looking like it might, that Cardinal goes for Mary. Not that Cardinal would see that as endangering their alliance, mind, but idk if Celeste would. If they did ... :'Da
Personally it's some of my favorite CR to watch happening and I wish I were around to do more of it, even though my favorite thing to do right now is tack against it for interesting friction reasons. The patronage issue and the fact that Celeste holds a justified grudge against Fawn vs Cardinal's loathing of Shell will make for some fun happenings somewhere down the road, I hope, but really, codependent alcoholic leperteams forever.
SO HOW ABOUT THAT SUDDEN SWITCH TO MEMORY-LOSS, MARCH
haha but she DOES compare Celeste to her old team and dislikes Dragon on principle and just you wait until Scowl gets in...
Mostly though Excel is just frustrated with March. Because she wants to forget about her old team feels and be all about Celeste! Nobody wants that more than Raptor!
But March makes her feel insecure, which she deals with by interacting with him (and pushing him) as much as possible to prove how totally secure she is!! and doing great on this team!! LOOK HOW GREAT I'M DOING ON THIS TEAM I BET YOU'RE JUST JEALOUS!!
When they're getting along, though, she likes him well enough. He's funny but not so much so she feels threatened, and she's always wanted a teammate who'd play hardball without a fight—did I just say basically all the same stuff you did in a slightly different order? We're a cool team full of cool people.
March you're his friend and you have to put up with it because there's no backing out now. Hatter doesn't let go easily. So there.
I mean yeah, Hatter's in no small way scared of March. Because March is dangerous and Celeste wins a lot and Hatter probably can't beat him anymore, which is scarier still because Rin and Yukio are around and dumb and fds;gldf. But he honestly enjoy's March's company and is SUPER RELIEVED when March actually... listens to him... about Canary...
I REALLY DON'T KNOW WHAT TO SAY EXCEPT HATTER HONESTLY LIKES MARCH... AND IT ISN'T EVEN REALLY A PROBLEM ANYMORE IT'S JUST A THING THAT IS TRUE
bitter as fuck shell didn't get murderslammed in the game even though they caused it, hence his BITING TAMAKI since. March got eaten, Tamaki didn't get hurt, it is only fair he gets bitten. #logic. But no major changes to his perception of princess sparkles.
BONE WITCH OFFERS MAGICAL THINGS. So new powers, potentially, or the chance to revive painlessly with the cost of being a zombie. It'd depend on what they're asking for. Her mark would be something like a bit of you turned to bone (so you'd have one bone finger or something), or bone jewelery piercings. Her requirement would probably be something hilariously awk like collecting blood and bones from the dead.
I THINK I'M INSANE. He has gone into total denial over the memory regain because he doesn't know how to cope- Where does it fit into the timeline? Was that when I was blacked out? Am I an amnesiac? Is Dormouse here because she was dead? What happened?????????!!?!??!
he is terrified and confused and mentally breaking down while pretending to be normal externally, and has every intention of denying that happened until he gets more context.
because the system is designed to fill us all with hatred and bile until only the six champions stand on the corpses of the six destroyed losers and celeste wants to be in the winner pile but you don't love us enough to prioritize us forever
oh lord i covered this on plurk but he has rediscovered his scorpiopathy and while it's tempered by sage he is just out of fucks to give \'-'/ he is so done with being scared of teams like cardinal and will bus them without a second thought and also he learned how to turn off his feelings and he got back the end of sabraather dangerbear ssssooooo. WHAT IS SANITY HE DOESN'T EVEN FUCKING KNOW ANYMORE. He's back to faking and fronting and some of his sanity is back in place thanks to getting drunk and also hugging it out but there is something v. broken in his head now.
also he is really pissed off at jubjub specifically for ginger because he's kinda yan for his team /o\ he got really mad at shark over ginger and he's... mad! really mad! he blew up in a way he hasn't really blown up before because of the stress and anger and trauma that comes from going through a cannibalism game twice. also like, he knows that celeste is gonna celeste but he can't help the vague feelings of betrayal either since he makes a point to protect celeste from sage usually (not that there's much to protect celeste from because of sage, lol sage) but he realizes the betrayed feelings are maybe a little unreasonable since there is no official alliance.
Okay so Alchemist's stuff is probably related to potions and alchemy, so lifey things- My initial thought was, essentially, daily supplies of full heal potions, though other cases could be made for, for example, (out-of-game) immortality, healing factors, offensive potions, or even transmutation (not fma style, though). Obviously not all at once, but she's got options, but they'd mostly be defensive/healing boosts rather than offensive. Her offensive options are "throw bottles of potions at it until everything explodes and is on fire and made of gold and iron and bad shit"
What she wants is twofold: Someone to test her potions on (so she'd essentially be inflicting random status effects on her team, sometimes beneficial, sometimes crazy) and more importantly, a line of defense- she's already seen one portrait get killed and another attacked, so her patroned team is going to be forced to try to fight anyone who would try to attack her portrait.
Her mark would probably be tattoos of alchemic symbols, or some solid 24-karat gold jewelry adorned with said symbols with a red stone inlaid in it. (i like the tattoos but i am so weak to cool bling...)
What teams are you hoping Naoki gets on, or doesn't get on?
She carries on, since that is what she does. But she ate some guys! She chose to eat some guys, because it would help protect her team from herself, and because she was hungry and wanted to, and scared not to. She chose to attack a team they were neutral on and a team they were close to, which, when you think about it is fine, and when you feel about it is awful in different ways. She tells herself it's because she wanted to end the game quickly, decrease the number of sacrifices, but she doesn't quite believe herself. Being a monster--having that power--was thrilling. So she's pretty disgusted and horrified with herself, but she also doesn't feel like she deserves to freak out, so she's just kind of quietly compartmentalising that and moving on, just a little bit more jaded, less Pollyannaish. She wouldn't mind talking it out but the people she'd usually approach are too--"good"?--to be good counsel? Sooo...yeah. Gained Dark Side points, uncertain how to feel or how to react :|b
How is March; how was Celeste? I'll be honest i didn't pay attention to any team that wasn't mine and even those got half-assed :')
A little huffy about Lilac, but surprisingly little, and overall she thinks they handled it pretty well. :|a They had a sound strategy, and she assumed she was gonna get eaten anyway, so she was glad to be able to do it on her own terms.
Kind of a boring answer, but there was really no way it could compare to her first Dangerbear, so she's not overly excited about it.
The short answer is that she's not dealing with them.
Legitimately, she's pretty ... terrified + awestruck by her former self. There's a weight of years on her that Lace herself simply doesn't have - the way I inflicted amnesia on her this time was to wipe away all the decades she's been alive, and I actually did do enough back-counting on the math for that to be confident in saying she's at least fifty years old, the first time she appears in canon, and close to sixty when she finally "dies", so she had a pretty long life! Which is something that factors into how she plays without total memory loss, because at the end of her life she's a lot more ... playfully aggressive, and very bored, and even at the point in her life when she's still a claymore she's perceiving everything through a lens of cheerfully pragmatic but oh so very malicious solipsism.
Riful (not Lace) is a power-hungry gravity well where something like empathy should be. And some of that's her natural inclination - she will always be someone who finds it difficult not to be self-serving, even if the option occurs to her - and some of that's, well. The circumstances taking those natural inclinations and cranking them up to Violence Level 11.
Lace, on the other hand, comes to her memories by way of actually being Sword, from Aather, and thus getting ICly mindfucked into empathy. Which means she has ... fffeeelings about horrible things, especially if it's hr job to do them, and a gut sense of "hurting others is bad because I wouldn't want that to be me" that Riful herself never had. Which is a fascinating arc to play out for me - because there's really no way she won't still end up at the same place since ... I'm not playing her for a goddamned redemption arc, I'm playing a fall, it'll just take some more interesting turns getting there. There's a lot of self-hate - her initial reaction to eating Gin's arm was an internal one of revulsion, that she quickly suppressed in favor of being cheerfully homicidal for her own sanity's sake. Getting her second memory was such a shock to her - the casually remorseless way Sword tormented Echo simply because she found her interesting/attractive was legitimately 180 degrees from how she saw things, she frightened herself. I mean she also hungered for the same confidence and power and ability to inspire fear in others, so she's perfectly willing to - and instinctively kind of built to - slip into that mindset to defend herself/get what she wants, but she found herself disgusting and is afraid. SHE IS A KID WHO WANTS TO BE LIKED AND THAT ... THING DOESN'T ACT LIKE HER AT ALL.
What if she really is a monster who deserves to die. She can tell herself she's not, here, but what if her memories prove it to be a lie. What will she do. So she's avoiding her memories completely in favor of doing her own thing and defying herself. Who I was doesn't define me! Nyah! I'll be my own kind of awful person! Which will, ultimately, be hard to tell the difference from the old kind, short of actually looking at how they perceive it inside their own heads, because even amnesiac Riful is a creature of frightening willpower who will keep on keeping on and bull in a china shop her way through her own potential morality to get power, whatever reason she has for getting it.
